Sony BDP-CX960
$800.00
Released September, 2009
The Pros:Saves a lot of effort having to dig through piles of disc cases, everything always at your fingertips. Starts playing Blu-ray discs in a reasonable amount of time, no long load times. Good organization functions, lets you set categories and browse your collection easier.
The Cons:Doesn't remember where you left off after you've stopped a movie, always starts at the beginning again. Can't stop, pause or fast forward through previews on many titles. Doesn't accurately download title information, often just leaves a generic title even on popular mainstream movies.
The Sony BDP-CX960 is a 400-disc MegaChanger CD/DVD/Blu-ray disc player released in September as an affordable downgrade from the heavy-duty BDP-CX7000ES. It outputs Blu-ray discs in full 1080p high-definition, but also includes DVD playback/upscaling technology that upconverts standard-definition DVD content to near-HD quality over an HDMI connection.

In fact, the BDP-CX960 includes support for full 1080p/True-Cinema output, Dolby TrueHD / Dolby Digital Plus / DTS decoding, and 7.1-channel analog audio. Signature to the device is its Ethernet port, which allows it to connect to a local broadband network and download metadata — including title, director, cast information, release date, etc. — from Gracenote, software updates, and access to BD-Live (Profile 2.0) content. Included also is the ability to integrate with third-party automation control systems, as well as BRAVIA Sync technology for operating compatible HDMI-connected components via the unit’s remote.
Additional Information
The Sony BDP-CX960 comes ready to connect to a pre-existing wireless network; and is also DLNA certified.
