The Sharp BD-HP17U is a midrange Blu-ray Disc player released in late 2009. The BD-HP17U features full 1080p video output at 24 frames per second to provide an original cinematic experience. This player is Profile 2.0 compliant, meaning Bonus View functionality and BD-Live internet content are supported.

The BD-HP17U features what Sharp calls a “Quick Start” function, allowing discs to be loaded approximately 10 seconds. Users can connect this Blu-ray player to their HDTVs via HDMI, allowing for both 1080p video and digital surround sound to travel through one connection. A component video connection and analog surround sound connections are also included for legacy equipment. Other features include a USB port for BD-Live and viewing photo slideshows on the player, plus an included remote control that is compatible with other Sharp Aquos devices.
