Pioneer Elite BDP-05FD
$800.00
Released September, 2008
The Pros:Supports both bitstreaming and decoding of high-def audio formats. Sleek look matches the new Elite receivers.
The Cons:Not Profile 2.0 compliant. Expensive. Does not do a good job of Upconverting DVD's.
The Pioneer Elite BDP-05FD ($800) Profile 1.1 Blu-ray player was announced on May 7th along with the Pioneer Elite BDP-51FD ($600) for upcoming release in the Fall 2008. Both players are considered Profile 1.1 compliant and missed the 2.0 designation found on competing models from Sony, Panasonic, and Samsung because of the lack of an Ethernet port and Internet connectivity.
